With notes of apple, cherries, strawberries, Chardonnay grapes, and even just a touch of tonic water, Breakfast is not just a morning quaff. While this effervescent beer would be a welcome companion with a variety of breakfast dishes, including pancakes, waffles with fruit compote and ham quiche, it could also hold its own for lunch, happy hour and dinner as well. A slight spiciness from the wheat makes this New Zealander a lovely dining partner with everything from salmon, seafood and salads to pork loin, cheeses and poultry. Bright and refreshing, Breakfast isn’t just for breakfast any more.

Despite the use of green glass, this is a smartly packaged beer. Loosen the cork, listen for the resounding pop and take in the big wafts of juicy fruit and floral notes that burst free, nostalgically taking you back to schoolday candy treats. The predominant fruit here, we are told, is cherry, and yet, strangely, it smells and tastes more like raspberry to me. Otherwise, in keeping with its Belgian wheat roots, there’s a floury dryness to the finish, where some bitterness brings balance to the sweet fruit in the mouth. A bit of fun for celebrations and summer parties.
