A beer named after a famous film that claims to be Italian but is brewed in San Marino. Confused? Best to just drink it... A gorgeous burnished red/gold color like autumn leaves is followed by a complex aroma of peppery hops; rich, dark fruit and sweet malt. Malt and ripe fruit dominate the palate, but there is a gentle underpinning of hop resins, too. Sweetness is countered in the finish by a dry note from fruit and hops, but malt remains the dominant theme. It would make a splendid companion for pasta penne with herb and tomato sauce.
- Roger Protz
The handsome swing-top bottle lets loose a hazy amber beer with a wispy white head. The aroma is spicy and malty, but an alcohol note sounds a warning. The beer is soft, round and warming on the palate, with candy-like malts showing sweetly in the center. Moderate bitterness guides it out to a long dry finish. Close to a tripel in style, this may reward some bottle age; it shows its alcohol a bit too readily. That said, it’s still tasty, especially with linguini carbonara.
