Not long ago, this style from Dortmund and Northern Germany was that country’s largest seller. Though it has lost favor (most Dortmund breweries have now closed or are run by global players), it remains a delicious style, more malty than hoppy. In the old country, it tends to be higher in alcohol. That said, Golden Export is the color of a gold coin, heady and finely aromatic, at the more sessionable strength of 5%. Clean and refreshing on the palate, it was superb with Rose Ann’s organic Yukon Gold potato soup with a dollop of sour cream, caraway rye, and organic poblano peppers stuffed with bison and onions.

Crystal clear and with an appetizing layer of suds. Very light pleasant malt aroma accompanied with a floral, sweet, honey-like hop bouquet. Delicate and inviting. Medium-light body with a fantastic malt foundation. Excellent balance of hop bitter and flavor. Great example of “export” style. Finishes smooth with a tantalizing hop bitterness that begs you to continue to the finish and ask for another.
