Hazy gold color. Light in body and rustic, but with plenty of character: grapefruit, teasing lemon zest, honeyed melon, freshly cut grass and white pepper lead to a firm, dry, lingering hop finish. If I caught one of these, I’d probably keep it and throw it in the ice box. Heck, I might even try to catch my limit!

I was kvetching to a brewer just a couple of weeks ago how "kölsch" seems to have become anonymous in the United States with "golden ale of no discernable style." Talk about prescient! Judged as a true kölsch, this is too dark in color, far too cloudy, too fruity and with a body that's not nearly lean enough. Judged as a simple golden ale, it has a pleasant, sweet orange and peach nose, moderately full and fruity body and mildly bitter, lightly citrusy finish. In other words, a decent enough ale. Just don't call it a kölsch.
