Domaine DuPage

March 1, 2010 Warrenville, IL
Reviewers:Roger Protz - Garrett Oliver

Two Brothers Brewing Co.
Warrenville, IL

Available: IL, MN, WI, OH, IN, MA, PA, NY

The brewery was founded in 1996 by brothers Jim and Jason Ebel, initially as a draft-only production brewery. The brewhouse was produced in Vancouver; the balance of the brewery was mostly donated; the brothers’ grandfather, a retired dairy farmer, donated his milk tanks, which were immediately converted to fermenters.

A copper-colored beer with a vast collar of foam that leads you into a creamy malt aroma with butterscotch, gentle hops and an intriguing hint of an ancient type of confectionery known as milk drops. Biscuit malt builds in the mouth with light but spicy hops and a continuing hint of butterscotch and caramel. Hop bitterness makes a more telling point in the finish, balancing the rich malt and butterscotch.
- Roger Protz
This beer has an attractive burnt-orange color and raises a thin off-white head. The aroma is pleasantly malty—biscuits, toast and slightly musty oranges. The full-bodied palate is evenly balanced with gentle hopping firming up a round malty core. The finish is off-dry and clean. This is not an easy style to pull off, but this version is quite tasty and admirably well-brewed. It will pair beautifully with pork and with game meats.
- Garrett Oliver
