I’m enveloped by the aroma of dark, sweet fruits, raisin, fig, plum, and drawn in deeper with the candi sugar sweetness that presents with the first sip. Chocolate, currants, blackberry and even some caramel toffee are all there as well. None steps up to claim ownership; this is an orchestra playing together in perfect time. A once-a-year performance from this brewery. Enjoy fresh, but cellar a few others, as this one will likely mature nicely.

Mahogany hued with an herbal, malty aroma, a bit like a mint chocolate wafer mixed with light potpourri. The body of this sweetish ale is more chocolaty than herbal, however, with sloe plum and sweet raisin notes and just a trace of peppery spiciness adding some malty complexity, ending with lingering chocolate and a fair amount of alcoholic heat. A big beer with the malt profile of a smaller beer, suitable for dessert and chocolate.
