It has an acidic, “horse blanket” aroma with powerful hints of unripe plums and raisins. The palate is quenching with tart fruit, sweet malt and a hint of custard cream cookies from the grain. The finish is suddenly dry, with tangy fruit building and vying for attention with the rich grain notes.

For me, the key to success of a sour beer is achieving a balance between intriguing sourness and easy drinkability. This Australian beer manages that brilliantly. Tart red berries in the slightly creamy aroma correctly predict more berry fruit in the bittersweet yet delightfully sour taste. There’s also a firm, burning bite of acidity that grows on the swallow before a dry, creamy finish, with more than a suggestion of strawberry ice pop and a developing bitterness. Spritzy, well carbonated and a great appetite sharpener.
