Boris pours like 10W-40 motor oil but, like a good lubricant, glides down effortlessly. I am very impressed by the complexity of this beer. Notes of molasses, fig cake, chocolate-covered espresso beans, roasted almonds, black currant, wet-bottom shoo-fly pie—I could go on and on but I will run out of room and the editor will replace me with a less-babbling writer, so I’ll stop here.

Stout, with it’s dark color and complex flavors is perhaps the ultimate beer to serve with flavor-filled, fresh, natural, textural food such as frog legs or oysters on the half shell. This high gravity stout, black as a night in a swamp, is big, bold and delicious with the softness of the oatmeal toning down the powerful taste of alcohol and hops. Luscious herbal and licorice overtones with hints of earthy pumpernickel bread make this stout as complex as any Semillon or Sangiovese.
