This beer pours a pretty copper-mahogany color with a tan head and exudes a big, malty nose with hints of grapefruit and mango. Nice carbonation brings about an assertive, yet balanced citrusy hop hit right at the beginning. Alcohol presence is noted, and appreciated in this very American-style bitter. Lingering bitterness lives up to its name.

A fresh, inviting aroma more than suggest that here we have good hops, well used. Equally encouraging in the nose is the smooth, rich malt and all this promise is handsomely fulfilled in the mouth where nut and tea flavors mingle with malt, and a tangy, bouncing overlay of peppery hops bears down on any excessive sweetness. With a satisfying, dry, bitter finish that lays on more tangy hop and just a hint of orange cream, this is a robust yet well balanced beer in the ESB style. Knowing the original ESB from Fuller's rather well, I'd say this was a first-rate tribute.
