Beer Camp Hoppy Lager
January 27, 2015Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
Chico, CA and Mills River, NC
Type of Beer: Lager
ABV: 7%
The generously hopped lager is no longer a trend, but is a firmly established category in American brewing. This limited-time only lager is the first in a new annual series from Sierra Nevada to celebrate its Beer Camp program. Made with the folks at Ballast Point Brewing in San Diego, it’s sweetly floral on the nose. There’s a fluffy biscuit, slight lemony and subtle pepper bite. It’s a beauty to look at—deep golden with an eggshell head the consistency of mousse. But it’s the mouthfeel of this beer that stands out. Lusciously creamy and soft, like a liquid featherbed, it just slides down the throat. A slight pine hop bitterness on the finish and I’m already thinking about opening the next bottle.
