Unexpectedly flavorful at 60ºF, rather than the recomended 53.6ºF. It pours beautifully: great color, grand head, and pleasing sound. This beer proves very inviting on the nose. The warmer temperature brings out the rich malty character, and well-fitted hops, of this definitely Bavarian-style lager. The taste is clean and refreshingly honey-like on the palate. On swallowing, the beer settles nicely all the way down, with a smooth tail. I LIKE THIS BEER.

The bottle is fascinating—low shouldered, faceted and heavy. Russian beer? I’m hoping for a taste of the famous peasant beer “kvass,” but this beer isn’t so dark—it’s a pale mahogany color. The nose is fruity, with hints of orange, plum and passion fruit. Moderate hops and caramelized malts are well balanced on a dry palate showing a quick flash of fruity sweetness in the center. The finish is quick and dry. Grain flavors linger. It would be nice with venison and sausages.

Dense, rocky, dark-cream head. The beer itself has an interesting mahogany-red color. Perhaps I am being suggestible to this color when I think I find cherries in the aroma. Perhaps cooked cherries, marinated in honey vodka and wrapped in a pancake? Suddenly the richness falls away, the sweetness vanishes and we are headed for a grainy, dry finish. Buckwheat pancakes—but very hoppy.
