92 Smoke Ale, Rogue Ales (OR). 5.8% ABV (8/08)
Hazy orange amber color. Aromas of smoky beef jerky, grilled corn and honeyed toast are lush and expansive and follow through on a round, smooth entry to a dry medium-to-full body with a touch of raisin bread and dark caramel. Finishes with a long, smoked meat and singed praline fade. A nicely balanced rauchbier that maintains great drinkability on its own or with gamey, grilled fare.
88 Samuel Adams Sample B, The Boston Beer Co. (MA). 5% ABV (9/06)
Beautiful sunset copper color. Warm caramel and dark roasted nut and dried meat aromas. A rich frothy entry leads to a tangy, dryish medium- to full-bodied palate with smoked nuts, molasses, turkey jerky and singed citrus flavors. Finishes with a charred nut, toffee and clay fade. A subtly smoked version of the style with a nice affinity for food.
