Gordon Biersch Sommerbrau Available in Stores

By Staff - May 11, 2015

gordon-biersch-sommerbrau(Press Release)

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Gordon Biersch Brewing Company announced today that its Kölsch-style Sommerbrau is available in stores now.

Sommerbrau

Kölsch translates directly to “the beer of Cologne,” in the West of Germany. This light bodied beer is fermented using a special top fermenting yeast strain that Gordon Biersch co-founder Dan Gordon sources from former classmates at the Technical University of Munich, Weihenstephan. Sommerbrau is brewed with 80% pale-malted barley and 20% malted wheat. The pinpoint bitterness of the German Tettnang hops and crisp finish make this beer perfect for warm weather enjoyment.

– ABV:4.8%

– Bitterness: 25 IBU

– Residual Sugar: 1.7%

– Yeast Strain: Weihenstephan Kölsch yeast

– Hops: Hallertau and Tettnang

“Kölsch is such a unique style and is so challenging to brew. The subtle flavors from the unique yeast strain make it a perfect summer libation,” says Gordon. “And just like all our other beers, Sommerbrau is brewed in adherence with the ‘Reinheitsgebot,’ which is the German purity law of 1516 stipulating the use of only four ingredients – water, malt, hops, and yeast. Very few breweries in the US if not the world can make that claim.”

Sommerbrau will be available through July wherever Gordon Biersch products are sold. Six packs range in price between $8.99 and $9.99.
