Excellent balance and plenty of character for a beer with only 4.5% ABV. Soft aromas of honeyed malt and delicate hop. A hint of fruit (pineapple? melon?) adds intrigue. A delicious thirst-quenching beer. The label states this beer is medium-bodied, which I feel is a bit misleading, as it seems lighter in body to me. A beer searching for a Saturday afternoon football game with friends.
I must reveal my prejudice toward U.S. beers named for European cities, like Munich, Vienna, Kulmbach and Dortmund. Dortmunders are stylistically called “Export” beer. No matter the name, there is a lovely floral bouquet with round malt mouthfeel. The taste is fresh, pleasant and easy to enjoy: a balance of sweet and dry, flavorful and refreshing. We served it to rave reviews with a frittata of spinach, fresh morels, artisan salami and semi-soft cheese, topped with organic sour cream.
