This beer from, Odell Brewing Co., pours dark brown and features a frothy, thick head that recalls meringue. Dried fruit notes greet the nose and is followed by a chewy, sweet caramel mouthfeel. Hints of vanilla bean follow. The oak aging is understated as is the alcohol burn normally associated with high gravity, barrel-aged beers. Woodcut No. 4 is catergorized as a double märzen style lager, and as such, a malty backbone is prominently featured. It is truly a delicious beer.
I usually don’t pop open a caged & corked, limited released beer on a week day for self-consumption but today was cause for celebration: I bought a new car. Okay, not a new car. But a new used car. I got a nice run out of my ’93 Ford Ranger, and I suspect, if you had the patience, you’d get a nice run out of Woodcut No. 4 if you cellared it.
