For episode 34 of the Beervana podcast, Jeff Alworth and Patrick Emerson recorded live from the labs of Imperial Yeast in Portland, Oregon.

Imperial Yeast is just one of a few labs that offers yeast to both homebrewers and commercial breweries. Alworth and Emerson speak to the three men behind the company about all things yeast: how it is kept and propagated, how it is sourced and stored, and how they keep their labs clean when dealing with a variety of yeasts.

Jeff Alworth is the author of the The Beer Bible and Cider Made Simple. You can find him blogging at Beervana. Patrick Emerson is a professor of economics at Oregon State University as well as a research fellow at the Center for Applied Microeconomic Research at the São Paulo School of Economics (C-Micro). You can also find him blogging at Beeronomics.

GuinnessThis episode of Beervana is brought to you in part by Guinness. For a limited time, you can now try their unexpected brews, Guinness Antwerpen Stout and Rye Pale Ale.
