Pours a cloudy, turbid hazy orange with a sticky lacing. Smells of tangerines, kumquats, parsley, faint toffee and bread crust. A tad raw, bitter enough for an IPA and more than enough hop flavor to keep it fun; hoppiness unloads with fresh grass, resin, herbal undertones and citrus. Balanced with a sufficient malt base. Overall a decent IPA, but with so many IPAs in the market, this one sits in the middle of the pack. Another IPA option in a can, though, and in 12 packs.

Nothing new about IPA in a can these days, but canned beer from Los Angeles? That’s worthy of a second look, and taste. Bright and medium gold, this ale has a serious perfume to it, mixing sweet citrus and honey, oily herbs and floral notes. On the palate, it begins mild and malty but quickly grows in its hoppy goodness, adding first lemony, then resinous and finally grapefruit peel flavors, all leading to a bracingly bitter finish. Put a few burgers on the ’cue and keep some cans in the cooler.
