eep amber hue with a healthy-looking lace. Biscuity nose with suggestions of dried grass, peppery hop, cherry skin and faint sweetness. Think medium-creamy body, a malt bomb. Aggressive biscuit malt flavor with a hop bitterness that just seems to keep things in balance. Slight warmth of alcohol shows it is a slightly bigger brew. A tasty brew, but the maibock connection is missing.

Some might say a maibock should be on the paler side, but I’ve no problem with this bright amber beauty and its aroma of toasted caramel and faint cereal. Neither do I have any issue with the well-lagered character of this beer, revealed in a sweet-but-restrained body with deep malt complexity, combining caramel and toffee and very light appleish tannins with hints of wood and ash. Satisfying, restorative, soothing ... all the things a good spring beer should be. Add some sausage and cheese and I’m in heaven.
