Lonely Planet’s Global Beer Tour:
A Guide to Beer Tasting at the World’s Best Breweries
$19.99, Lonely Planet
One of the problems with printing a guide book in this day and age (and this comes from the author of two such projects) is that by the time it gets to the public, the world has changed. Breweries have closed, new ones have opened, and the place that was great last week has suddenly fallen off its game. Lonely Planet, the company behind the blue-hued travel books, plays it relatively safe with this one. Using local experts, it largely highlights established breweries that have already stood the test of time. These are a comforting reminder of all the good beer that exists in the world, and along with the newcomers peppered in, they should spark the appropriate wanderlust. The hardback is more of a read at home than toss in your backpack for an adventure book, but it highlights that good beer can be found wherever you are.–John Holl
