Featured Tasting Panel: Expensive Beer Bottles
At some point, we’ve all stood before the shelves at a store, stared at the price tag and wondered, “Is this beer worth the price they are asking?” Even as the prices of six-packs have climbed into the teens for some, there are other beers, the ones we justify for special occasions and celebrations, that creep above $30 per bottle. Before this tasting, the editors of All About Beer Magazine scoured shops across the country, ran up a hefty tab and brought the bottles to San Francisco. There, we asked a panel of beer writers, judges and Cicerones to taste the beers blind. We didn’t reveal the price tag on any of the beers until the end, so as to not bias the panelists.
This blind panel was held at Old Devil Moon, one of San Francisco’s newest and best beer bars. From a well-chosen beer list, to nitro coffee on tap and a stellar po’ boy menu, make it a point to visit this voodoo-themed spot in the Mission.

You know other comments about his beers other than a “highly recommended” or “also tasted”?? It’s a little vague. Be nice to know what they thought about the “also tasted” category or the others ….
Hello Anne,

I have to agree with Anne. The categories of “highly recommended”, “recommended” and “also tasted” are next to meaningless. It a shame you took and the time, effort and expense and put together a tasting panel and all you can offer are simple, three-sentence summaries for these beers. This could have been such an informative article. Instead, it reads like a bunch of buddies getting together to drink in the afternoon.
I thought the way they broke it down was great, that’s all I need to know. Don’t need to know if it has hints of pine laced with chestnut coffee with an underlying hint of citrus etc. Sometimes at end of these descriptions you gotta think to yourself wtf, just let me know is it good, gooder or goodest.
remember, kiss
