Brooklyn Brewery Partners with Culinary Institute
A new partnership between The Brooklyn Brewery and the Culinary Institute of America will bring a brewery to the CIA’s Hyde Park, NY, campus, where students can study beer and make their own brews.
The seven-barrel brewhouse will be in the CIA’s student union and dining area. Initial brews, which include a lager and pilsner along with seasonal beers, will be served on tap at the brewery and at the four CIA dining areas on campus.
“This partnership is forward-thinking both in terms of culinary education and college dining,” says Waldy Malouf, senior director of special projects for the CIA in a written statement. “In addition to being a craft brewery for campus visitors and students 21 and older, it will serve as a research and development classroom to create and test new beer flavors.”
Brooklyn Brewery Brewmaster Garrett Oliver, a food and pairing expert and author of The Brewmaster’s Table, and his team are planning to be on campus regularly and will assist in curriculum and recipe development. The brewery has worked with the college for the last two decades, according to Brooklyn Brewery co-founder and chairman Steve Hindy.
The union is currently under construction, and the brewery is expected to open to the public in the summer of 2015.
