This beer pours copper in the glass, with a light ecru head. Aromas of banana taffy and tropical fruits. Banana and passion fruit in the flavor, plus Vanilla Wafer cookies and light spicy pie filling. It’s Bananas Foster, with caramel notes, exotic fruit and brown sugar sweetness. The pumpkin adds a noticeable tannic quality that makes your molars squeak, and there’s hop bitterness in the finish.

Uinta Brewing Co. Oak Jacked Imperial Pumpkin Ale

At the state fair, Oak Jacked Imperial Pumpkin Ale is the humungous pumpkin that takes home the 4H ribbon. This beer is “brewed with fresh pumpkin and fall spices, aged in oak barrels for 6 months.” Since the label indicated it was bottled in late August, that means they were brewing with fresh pumpkins in March. How dey do dat? Quibbles aside, the ruby-tinged copper is appealing. Bourbon and vanilla aromas, in fact, more bourbon and oak than pumpkin spice. Dense mouthfeel, but very drinkable and rather boozy. Interestingly, it could almost pass for a Belgian dubbel, with spice coming from the yeast, plums and other stonefruit. Not very pumpkin-y, but it could certainly win over friends to the style. Comes caged-and-corked in a 750ml as part of their Crooked Line Series and weighs in at a hefty 10.31 percent ABV.

Smuttynose Brewing Co.’s Pumpkin Ale pours burnished gold with a creamy pale head that dissipates quickly. Ginger, clove and brown sugar in the aroma, with delicate pie crust maltiness and floral notes. Medium mouthfeel, a distinctive brown spice bite, with graham cracker maltiness. More hop bite in the finish than in most pumpkin beers, but it’s not unwelcome. This is first a good beer, and secondarily a pumpkin beer. 5.6 percent ABV.

Elysian Brewing Company Releases Night Owl

It may feel like summer, but to the folks at Elysian Brewing Company the warm weather that’s finally arrived in Seattle is a reminder that pumpkin season is on its way. In fact, it won’t be long before the Night Owl Pumpkin Ale hits local shelves – release is scheduled for August 15. Night Owl has become a Northwest fall classic, brewed with seven and a half pounds of pumpkin per barrel added at all three phases of brewing (mash, kettle and fermenter). It’s also spiced in conditioning, with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and allspice. In Beer Advocate, the Alstrom brothers gave Night Owl high marks, remarking on the melon-like quality of the pumpkin, combined with spicing which “slowly strolls hand in hand with the balancing hop bitterness.” They also rank it as “one of the most complex pumpkin ales we’ve had to date.”

Down to the hooting details: Night Owl is an easy-drinking pumpkin ale made with Pale, Munich and Crystal malts, green and roasted pumpkin seeds, and pumpkin in the mash, boil and fermenter. It is bittered with Magnum hops and spiced in conditioning with nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, ginger and allspice. 5.9% ABV, 18 IBU.
Available in Draft and 22oz bottles.

Leinenkugel’s Announces Return Of Oktoberfest Seasonal

Leinenkugel’s announces the release of their fall seasonal Oktoberfest. This year marks a decade for the festive fall lager as it was first introduced in 2001. It is brewed with Munich, Caramel and a blend of 2-row malt. It will be available in late-August through October in bottles and draft.

Newcastle Debuts Four New Limited Edition Brews

Newcastle Brown Ale has announced the debut of four new limited beers to their line. The new line is a result of a collaboration between Newcastle (England) and Caledonian (Scotland). The new beers are Summer Ale, Werewolf (fall ale with beery undertones), Winter IPA and Founder’s Ale (traditional bitter). The beers will be available in select markets nationwide in 6- and 12-pack bottles.

Odell Brewing Co. Announces Release Of St. Lupulin Extra Pale Ale

Odell Brewing Co. has announced the release of their seasonal St. Lupulin Extra Pale Ale. Light in color, the beer is dry hopped and features a crisp, clean finish. It has an ABV of 6.5 percent and is available through September. Get it while you can.

Fuller’s Releases Front Row Seasonal Ale

Fuller’s has announced the release of their new seasonal ale, Front Row. The moreish 3.7 percent beer is light ruby colored with fruity bitterness from the Challenger hops. They company claims it is the perfect thirst-quenching point for after rugby, of which it is named after. It is available on draft through February and March.

Odell Brewing Announces Return Of Red Ale

Odell Brewing has announced the release of its seasonal brew, Red Ale.

Red Ale has a spicy floral nose, crisp citrus finish and an array of aggressive American hops. It pours ruby with a bright, foamy head. It is 6.5 percent ABV and will be available through April.

Odell Brewing Company releases Mountain Standard Double Black IPA to celebrate the end of Daylight Savings time. The beer pours rich and dark and boasts a spicy hop nose. It is brewed using locally-grown Cascade and Chinook hops and dark roasted malts. It will be available in 750 ml caged-and-corked bottles and is 9.5 percent ABV.
