NOVATO, CA—Like any true IPA fanatic, both Moylan’s Brewery and Marin Brewing Company want to make this Thursday (August 1^st), a National IPA Day to remember.

Just in time for IPA Day, Moylan’s Brewery announced today their newest release – the Therapy Session IPA. New Brewmaster, Derek Smith, was looking to create the perfect IPA for those who want their hops fix but don’t need the high alcohol content that usually comes with it. The Therapy Session IPA has a 4.5% ABV but all the hoppy flavor and kick of your more potent IPAs. The Therapy Session IPA uses a blend of Galaxy, Centennial, and Simcoe hops along with Araomatic, Caravienne, and Munich malts.

Brewmaster Derek Smith commented, “The Therapy Session IPA is perfect for the hotter days of summer. The lower ABV allows you to enjoy a couple of pints on a hot day without the fear of falling off your barstool. Late kettle additions of Galaxy and Centennial hops provide plenty of fruity overtones in the beer, most notably: peach, mango, and orange. It makes for a wonderful IPA and a great beer to enjoy on IPA Day.”

Marin Brewing Company is also celebrating IPA Day in style. Marin Brewing Company favorites like Marin IPA and Three Flowers IPA will be on tap at the local-favorite brewery and restaurant, but Brewmaster Arne Johnson is marking the occasion with a twist to his classic Marin IPA by adding a new flavor addition of Simcoe hops and 30% less Crystal malt for a more hop-forward kick.

Owner of both Marin Brewing Company and Moylan’s Brewery, Brendan Moylan, is enthusiastic for IPA Day, commenting, “Many of our customers are big IPA fans and both Moylan’s and Marin Brewing Company have some fantastic IPAs. NOVATO, CA—Moylan’s Brewery recently took home the gold medal for their Our Dark Secret Double Black IPA in the Out of Bounds Pale Ale category at this year’s 2013 U.S. Open Beer Championship. Breweries from around the world sent in more than 2500 beers for the only brewery competition to include professional breweries along with award-winning home-brewers. An international panel of judges from England, Canada and the United States helped select the winners who were announced last week.

Moylan’s Brewery also took home several awards at this year’s California State Fair including a silver for Moylan’s Dragoons Dry Irish Stout, a silver for Our Dark Secret Double Black IPA in the Black IPA category, and a bronze in the for the Ryan Sullivan’s Imperial Stout in the Russian Stout category. The California State Fair Craft Beer Competition includes nearly 700 entries from over 80 of the best breweries in California.

Founder Brendan Moylan was ecstatic about the recent wins, commenting, “It is always wonderful to be recognized along with some of the best breweries in the U.S. Moylan’s has a long history of award winning beers and it feels great to keep that tradition going.”

These awards began a month of milestones for Moylan’s Brewery including brewing their 50,000th barrel of beer and raising $40,000 this past weekend at their annual charity event, the Breastfest.

NOVATO, CA—Moylan’s Brewery is pleased to announce the addition of new Brewmaster Derek Smith. Smith joins Moylan’s from Black Diamond Brewing Company in Concord, California, where he served as Brewmaster for the past 6 years and was instrumental in leading the brewery to a number of award-winning beers. Derek has a seasoned history of California brewing and has been a longtime friend and fan of Moylan’s Brewery.

Smith graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in architecture. Upon graduating, Smith traveled abroad and took a job at the White Horse in London as a cellarman. The White Horse instilled in Smith a deep appreciation for great cask ales and Belgian beers. Six months abroad turned into a four-year odyssey of travel, scuba diving, and beer tasting. Smith bolstered his newly discovered passion for brewing by apprenticing at Two Rows Brewery followed by The Master Brewers Program at UC Davis. Since then, Smith has served as Brewmaster for Black Diamond Brewing Company, where he was well known for his creative and bold hop-centric IPAs, Belgian ales, and barrel-aged beers.

Founder Brendan Moylan is excited to have Smith onboard, commenting, “Derek is the perfect choice to take over the reigns here at Moylan’s Brewery. He is known in West Coast brewing circles for his passion and dedication to making great craft beer. We are excited to bring his expertise to Moylan’s and we believe Derek will play a vital role in shaping our brewery’s future.”
