DOWNINGTOWN, PA—Victory Brewing Company (Victory) is pleased to announce the first in its series of new arrivals, DirtWolf Double IPA. The newest beer in Victory’s brand lineup is part of the brewery’s initiative to increase beer production to meet customer demand, in addition to offering a greater variety of styles and brands, a practice celebrated by the craft brewing industry and its loyal consumers.

Hitting shelves and dining establishments beginning this week, the suggested retail price for DirtWolf Double IPA is approximately $9.99, depending on location; this brand marks the brewery’s first foray into the four-pack market. Known for melding traditional styles and unique concepts to produce the highest quality, full flavored beers, Victory’s DirtWolf Double IPA continues the brewery’s standard of innovation and excellence.

Why DirtWolf Double IPA

Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s Double IPA series experiment with whole flower, American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% ABV brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties.

“We’re very proud to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf to market,” said President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski.  “As brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we are constantly looking to keep our core audience captivated and interested while creating opportunities to attract and introduce those new to the craft brewing movement. We think, and hope, everyone will be as pleased as we are with the result.”

DirtWolf Double IPA Availability

DirtWolf Double IPA is available for purchase in most major gourmet grocery stores, bottle shops and beer distributors, as well as many craft beer bars throughout Victory’s national distribution footprint, including most Whole Foods Markets and Wegmans locations along the East Coast. Harpoon Brewery

Boston

Style: Imperial IPA

ABV: 10%

Review: The Leviathan series from Harpoon has always delivered incredibly complex profiles—big and robust. This monster IPA is true to its family. Hazy (as is often the case with imperial IPAs), the Leviathan throws off an orange and lemon fruity nose. It shows a bright golden amber and drinks very deceptively mild with a rich body. The spice and fruit in the finish sits on top of a caramel richness and a hint of alcohol burn.

Harpoon Brewery

Boston

Style: IPA

ABV: 5.9%

Review: A 20-year-old classic, Harpoon IPA pours with a decided commitment to malt. Could we say it’s the Northeast version of IPAs?  Beautifully golden in color. A lot of malt also shows up in the finish. Definitely not a West Coast fruit bomb. Very piney in the finish, giving it the sense of English hops. It has an amazingly light mouthfeel for an IPA, making it ridiculously refreshing.

FORT COLLINS, CO—In September, Odell Brewing will release the next version of its variety 12 pack, Montage. The Fall~Winter package will feature flagship 90 Shilling, the award winning IPA, seasonal Isolation Ale, and a new Roots Release brew called Wellspring.

Inspired by the brewery’s pilot brewing system, the Roots Release brews are experimental, one-of-a-kind, and typically only available in the brewery’s Tap Room. Wellspring, a dry hopped saison, is the first Roots Release offering the brewery will release. Slightly hoppier than the classic Saison, Wellspring is crisp with notes of lemon pepper, banana, and stone fruit.

“Our pilot system is the wellspring of our creativity,” said marketing manager, Amanda Johnson-King. “It’s the heart and soul of our brewery, and we wanted to honor that with our first Roots Release brew.”
Wellspring
Odell brewing will offer three different versions of the Montage variety pack annually, mirroring its seasonal beer release schedule. Each edition will include brewery favorites 90 Shilling and IPA, the current seasonal offering and a new Roots Release offering.

Drake’s, Beachwood Brewers Collaborate on Mind Melder IPA https://allaboutbeer.net/daily-pint/whats-brewing/2013/08/drakes-beachwood-brewers-collaborate-on-mind-melder-ipa/ https://allaboutbeer.net/daily-pint/whats-brewing/2013/08/drakes-beachwood-brewers-collaborate-on-mind-melder-ipa/#comments Thu, 29 Aug 2013 23:26:30 +0000 Staff https://allaboutbeer.net/?p=30870 (Press Release)

LONG BEACH, CA—Drake’s Brewing Company and Beachwood Brewing Brewmasters John Gillooly and Julian Shrago have much in common when it comes to brewing hoppy beers. They are logical about it. Make it clean. Make it dry. Create a prominent bitterness that’s sharp and calculated. Amplify hop aroma. And always showcase the hops first and foremost. They both see no other rational way to go about it.

So, when they came together on a collaboration IPA, it didn’t take much mental energy to achieve the perfect Mind Melder IPA.

John beamed himself down to Long Beach last night, and as you read this, they are brewing their collaboration at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing. For his part, Julian offered up his thoughts on the most reasonable brewing methods for bringing the beer to their mutual standards on his system, and John brought in sexy hops, El Dorado and Nelson, to intensify the fresh lemon and tropical fruit aromas to their utmost potential.

Who’s Spock in this analogy? Who’s Kirk? Who’s Sulu? We couldn’t care less, but you can nerd out about it for a few hours over some Mind Melder IPAs at the beer’s release on Friday, September 20th from 5-10pm at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing. We’ll be kicking off LA Beer Week in the only logical way—with fresh Mind Melder IPA, Beachwood’s always stellar lineup of beers, and a hefty assortment of Drake’s brews including rare specialties and seasonals. Go to warp if you want, but make sure you get there in September for a taste. We’ve set the phasers to stun. Ok… we’re done now.

Aroma Coma is an India pale ale from Drake's Brewing Co.

Style: IPA

ABV: 6.7%

Review: A beautiful yellow, golden straw color that is slightly hazy. There is a lot of pine in the nose, and a hint of honey. The first taste is bitter, with a peppery flavor and a hint of orange. There is also a very distinct taste of citrus and pine. The finish is very dry.  This IPA really showcases the hops used to make it.

Moylan’s Brewery, Marin Brewing Co. Release New Beers https://allaboutbeer.net/daily-pint/whats-brewing/2013/07/moylans-brewery-marin-brewing-co-release-the-therapy-session-ipa/ https://allaboutbeer.net/daily-pint/whats-brewing/2013/07/moylans-brewery-marin-brewing-co-release-the-therapy-session-ipa/#comments Wed, 31 Jul 2013 03:40:40 +0000 Staff https://allaboutbeer.net/?p=30546 (Press Release)

NOVATO, CA—Like any true IPA fanatic, both Moylan’s Brewery and Marin Brewing Company want to make this Thursday (August 1st), a National IPA Day to remember.

Just in time for IPA Day, Moylan’s Brewery announced today their newest release – the Therapy Session IPA. New Brewmaster, Derek Smith, was looking to create the perfect IPA for those who want their hops fix but don’t need the high alcohol content that usually comes with it. The Therapy Session IPA has a 4.5% ABV but all the hoppy flavor and kick of your more potent IPAs. The Therapy Session IPA uses a blend of Galaxy, Centennial, and Simcoe hops along with Araomatic, Caravienne, and Munich malts.

Brewmaster Derek Smith commented, “The Therapy Session IPA is perfect for the hotter days of summer. The lower ABV allows you to enjoy a couple of pints on a hot day without the fear of falling off your barstool. Late kettle additions of Galaxy and Centennial hops provide plenty of fruity overtones in the beer, most notably: peach, mango, and orange. It makes for a wonderful IPA and a great beer to enjoy on IPA Day.”

Marin Brewing Company is also celebrating IPA Day in style. Marin Brewing Company favorites like Marin IPA and Three Flowers IPA will be on tap at the local-favorite brewery and restaurant, but Brewmaster Arne Johnson is marking the occasion with a twist to his classic Marin IPA by adding a new flavor addition of Simcoe hops and 30% less Crystal malt for a more hop-forward kick.

Owner of both Marin Brewing Company and Moylan’s Brewery, Brendan Moylan, is enthusiastic for IPA Day, commenting, “Many of our customers are big IPA fans and both Moylan’s and Marin Brewing Company have some fantastic IPAs. We hope IPA enthusiasts come out and celebrate with us at both Moylan’s and Marin Brewing Company comeThursday.”

Flying Dog Adds The Truth Imperial IPA to Year-round Portfolio https://allaboutbeer.net/daily-pint/whats-brewing/2013/07/flying-dog-adds-the-truth-imperial-ipa-to-year-round-portfolio/ https://allaboutbeer.net/daily-pint/whats-brewing/2013/07/flying-dog-adds-the-truth-imperial-ipa-to-year-round-portfolio/#comments Tue, 30 Jul 2013 18:37:10 +0000 Staff https://allaboutbeer.net/?p=30540 (Press Release)

FREDERICK, MD—The Truth can be bitter. But it’s also quite refreshing.

Flying Dog Brewery is releasing a brand-new beer, The Truth Imperial IPA, as a year-round addition to its portfolio. The Truth was developed alongside the brewery’s Single Hop Imperial IPA series of over a dozen beers – including Citra, Nelson Sauvin, and Simcoe – released since 2010.

“Working with some of the most flavorful and obscure hop varieties for our Single Hop series gave us a great sense of the perfect hop blend for a bold, yet balanced Imperial IPA,” Matt Brophy, brewmaster and COO said. “This beer was over three years in the making.”

Warrior, Summit, CTZ, Citra, and Amarillo hops all contribute to the 120 IBUs in The Truth. The result is sharp hop bitterness with pine, bright citrus, and subtle stone fruit notes. A light malt backbone rounds out this Imperial IPA, which clocks in at 8.7% ABV.

New artwork by the iconic illustrator Ralph Steadman, a longtime friend of Flying Dog and Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, also accompanies The Truth.

Starting August 15, The Truth Imperial IPA will be available in Maryland and Washington, DC on draft and in 12-oz. bottle six packs.

Sierra Nevada Introduces Flipside Red IPA https://allaboutbeer.net/daily-pint/whats-brewing/2013/07/sierra-nevada-introduces-flipside-red-ipa/ https://allaboutbeer.net/daily-pint/whats-brewing/2013/07/sierra-nevada-introduces-flipside-red-ipa/#comments Tue, 30 Jul 2013 15:47:28 +0000 Staff https://allaboutbeer.net/?p=30536 (Press Release)

CHICO, CA—Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. has long embraced the unrelenting heat of Northern California summers. Its new seasonal, Flipside Red IPA, is an adoring sendoff to those months of river days and porch-sitting nights. Available beginning in September in 12-ounce bottles and on draught, Flipside Red IPA ushers out the mild-mannered beers of summer with a deep ruby-red hue and hop vigor.

“As fall approaches, some folks gravitate toward expressive malts and others want hops to do the work. This year we have both groups covered: we’ve again produced Tumbler Autumn Brown Ale and we’re introducing Flipside,” said Ken Grossman, founder of Sierra Nevada. “When the Chico sun eases up and we drop below triple digits, I’ll take a Flipside onto the brewery patio.”

Flipside Red IPA prominently features tropical fruit and citrus hop flavors from the use of whole-cone Citra, Simcoe, and Centennial hops. These hops are used both as finishing additions and in the Hop Torpedo, a proprietary Sierra Nevada device that captures more hop aroma and flavor, but not bitterness, during the fermentation process. The interplay of pale, caramel, and chocolate malts firmly roots Flipside Red IPA and supplies its rich color. With just the right gusto—6.2 percent ABV and 60 IBU—this seasonal beer is perfect for the final flash of summer.

Following Flipside Red IPA in Sierra Nevada’s seasonal offerings is the 32nd annual release of CelebrationAle, one of earliest examples of an American-style IPA.
