It’s no secret that Brendan Moylan is a wizard of a brewer. His Dark Secret proves my point. Just to the left of black, the head is witchcraft, a mountain of tan fissures, bubbles and crevasses, leaving flotsam and jetsam as it slowly descends the side of the glass. “Humulus lupulus, lupulus humulus,” I can see Brendan saying as he adds just the right amount of aromatic hops to balance the earthy, almost sexual malt character with even sexier floral tones. On the palate, this elixir is black magic, dry, yet fruity; bitter, yet luscious.

Jeepers creepers this one pours as though it does not want to reveal any secrets. Dense and creamy foam rides this one out. The pour is quiet, soft and rich. Malty and fruity notes playfully conceal the hop characters, mingled with dark roasted malty melanoidian melodies. Delightfully confusing impressions of hoppy IPA dryness juxtaposed with rich malty texture and visual delightfulness. This one will put you in a good mood if needed, and, if not needed, drink up for when you need a good mood later. Memorable!
