Candi
February 18, 2014Old Dominion Brewing Co.
Dover, DE
Type of Beer: Tripel
ABV: 9.5%
Appearance: Light copper with a quickly dissipating white head.
Aroma: Sweet, sweet, sweet. There’s a lot of sugar in this one.
Mouthfeel: Thick and coating, almost creamy, with lively carbonation.
Taste: It’s like carbonated honey water, with some spices and a satisfying boozy finish.
Overall Impression: The sweet sugar aromas began to permeate the air while I was still pouring into the glass, giving me the feeling that Candi was going to be a lot like candy. Flavors of banana and juicy fruit gum mingled with some light spice and a lot of sugar. It packs a big alcohol punch, but rather than being a sipper, this one is dangerously drinkable in big mouthfuls. Tread lightly, but repeat often.
