Jaipur is one of the UK’s most popular IPAs. In this double IPA variant, all the hallmarks of the original beer are present, with tropical and citrus fruits to the fore, but here they are in overdrive, bolstered by the warmth that 10% alcohol can bring. It’s a big sappy-hoppy drink with lots of sweetness and estery fruit, and a dry, bitter, leafy finish. I prefer the subtlety of the standard Jaipur, but, for a big beer, this is nicely done.

Thornbridge’s regular 5.9% IPA has won many awards, and this version uses the same grain and hops—Maris Otter pale malt and Ahtanum, Centennial and Chinook hops—but is bigger in every way. There’s a big blast of citrus on the nose—lemon, lime and grapefruit—with a cookie note from the malt and grassy and spicy hops. Hops build in the mouth with continuing tart fruit and rich, creamy malt. The finish is long and bittersweet with creamy malt to begin then tangy fruit and spicy, bitter hops in the finale.

I live in Sacramento and cannot for the life of me find Jaipur anywhere. Can you point me in the right direction?
