Manna from heaven, indeed! It has alcohol—6.8 percent—and hops in abundance (65 IBUs). The hop regime is amazing: Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial, Citra, Crystal and Warrior. The malts weigh in with pale, Munich, CaraMunich and Vienna. It has a lush pale bronze color and a hop aroma that is literally stunning: resins, pine kernels, freshly-planed wood, blood oranges and over-ripe grapefruit, with a nose-tingling spiciness, all balanced by rich ‘cheese biscuit’ malt. The palate is a superb balance of dry, chewy malt, bittersweet fruit and peppery hops while the finish is intensely bitter and hoppy but with lingering notes of rich malt and tart fruit.
- Roger Protz
A deep color for IPA, pale copper with a white head. The aroma is distinctive, and although the hops are American, the overall impression is a bit British. Herbs, hay, orange creamsicles, a touch of cheddar in the background. The bitterness is relatively light and broad across the tongue, supported by a smooth malt core. I think many people might see this as more ESB than IPA, but it’ll work just fine with that brisket.
