Enchanted Framboise
March 5, 2013BridgePort Brewing Co.
Portland, OR
Style: Belgian Style Framboise
ABV: 7.7
Staff Review: Pours a bit cloudy, an enameled red over dark copper, throwing off a nose reminiscent of Cherry Coke with a slightly sour tang. Highly carbonated, and spritzy on the tongue: all that foam tends to get in the way of a clear taste. Strong raspberry flavor, but more tart and pungent than simply framboise. The website claims a Belgian Triple was the genesis, but here we don’t see much in the way of Triple richness. Are the bright tart and tangy notes possibly the influence of the Pinot Noir? As it rises toward room temperature, it settles down and delivers a complex flavor and mouthfeel with hints of earthiness from the fruit pits. Could be a great food beer, especially for paella or goat cheese; it could also come together with thick cheesecake with raspberry sauce.
