Me and the Dev Ale

A rustic beer inspired by the Mississippi Delta Blues and its folklore, Me and the Dev Ale is brewed with Maris Otter, two-row pale, Aromatic, 15 Luv, Special B and Rye malts and hopped with Nugget, Simcoe and Falconer’s Flight hops.

Brilliant copper and clear, this autumnal-hued beauty doesn’t burst with flavor, but rather its honeylike sweetness weaves around strong notes of pine and riffs of hoppy citrus. But there is more to it: A bit of spice, leather and earthiness hums along in the background. However, the greatest trick this beer might pull is convincing you that it’s low in alcohol. It’s smooth drinking with only the slightest bit of stickiness on the end. You might want a double encore, but will likely wake up with demons in your head the next morning.

Bright copper in hue and rich, caramelly, just slightly spicy on the nose. On initial encounter I would guess this to be perhaps a youthful blonde bock, except, of course, for the “ale” in its name. On the palate, it’s far more alelike, with a caramel and toffeeish start, with candied red apple notes and a glimmer of the hoppiness that rises in the middle with flavors of tobacco, soft grapefruit peel and hints of candied ginger. The finish is off-dry and begging for a relaxed Southern summer night.
