New Glarus, WI
Since 1995 New Glarus has brewed Bavarian style wheat beers using our own Wisconsin wheat. A true hefe-weizen, naturally 100% bottle fermented and hazy. The rich spicy clove and cinnamon notes will greet your nose while sweet fruit and wheat kisses your lips.

Whoa, this one’s coming out of the bottle to greet me! A lively hefe, with the rough foam and clove/ripe banana pedigree you’d expect from a fine one. Beautifully hazy color; like light apricot nectar. So creamy in the first rush, with a crisp edge of tart wheat mash running blade-sharp across the billows of banana and Asian pear that lead to a sweet, spicy finish. I’m glad I waited till a hot day to try this one—it’s perfect for thirst management and relaxation.

The deep gold color and rich, fruity, bubblegum-like nose tempered by mildly peppery clove notes are the first indications that this is a rather substantial wheat. And the assertively spicy start, leading to a fruity, malty, peppery, even a bit caramelly body only add to the impression that this wheat, as quaffable as it is, is a pretty big beer. For whatever reason New Glarus doesn’t list the strength of their beers, but I’ve a suspicion that a few of these might have some drinkers dancing on their tables.
