Dale’s Pale Ale is made with a blend of Canadian pale and English crystal malts. Over a 90-minute boil, its hopped with Northern Brewer for bittering, then a bittering/flavor addition of Cascade and Columbus, followed by a late addition of Centennial for aroma. Dale’s Pale Ale is now available on all Frontier Airlines flights.

There’s a nice mix here with a very refreshing hop contingent setting forth against a well sustained malt portion. The result is a friendly, nourishing and enjoyable libation. The brewer calls it a big little beer, and I fully agree.

An American pale ale in a can is a rarity, so this has my full attention. It pours with a nice amber color, but it’s almost still. The head is thin and lacy. Hops leap out of the glass: earthy, fruity and pungent. The bitterness is broad and firm, leading into a dry, fruity center with loads of hop flavor. It slides out to a bone-dry finish with only a prickle of carbonation. A strange but compelling beer—a strong American pale ale in a can, with English carbonation. I’m game—where are the shrimp quesadillas?

Bubbly head. Bright, full orange color. Fruity, raspberry-like, aroma. Long development of flavours in a lively interplay. “Barley-sugar” sweetness in a firm malt background. Fresh fruitiness, with hints of citrus. Very late hoppy dryness on the tongue, and a nice touch of acidity, in a spritzy finish. Surprisingly playful for a beer of 6.5 per cent. The alcohol isn’t obvious until later.
