Big Eddy Imperial IPA
June 18, 2012 Has a rather silky, smooth mouthfeel - not the chewy resinous type normally associated with double IPAs. Mild carbonation with a creamy yet boozy finish. Five hops - Warrior, Cascade, Simcoe, Citra and Amarillo - are added at every stage of the brewing process helping it clock in at 80 IBUs. A Delicious and well balanced beer. Looking forward to trying this beer on draft. -->The third release in Leinekugel Brewing Co.’s Big Eddy Series, this imperial IPA pours orange with a huge nose (sugar coated grapefruit and crème brûlée). Minimal lacing. Has a rather silky, smooth mouthfeel – not the chewy resinous type normally associated with double IPAs. Mild carbonation with a creamy yet boozy finish. Not bad – not great. I like Leinies a lot for their creativity and being one of the first breweries with a LARGE selection of beers to gain large distribution in the midwest. When I have a BIG IPA, I want it to be chewey and this one was a bit too thin for me. Balanced instead of that HITS you hard hops that many IPAs offer today. I enjoyed it but if I want a BIG IPA, I’m going somewhere else.
