Southern Tier Brewing Co. building satellite brewpub in Pittsburgh

By Staff - March 2, 2016

(Press release)

Southern Tier Brewing CoLAKEWOOD, New York—Southern Tier is doubling down on the Steel City with its first satellite facility. Nestled within easy walking distance between Heinz Field and PNC Park, Southern Tier will open its brewpub at 316 North Shore Drive. It will feature a full food menu as well as both pub-exclusive and classic STBC beers. Craft beer fans can expect the same commitment to quality and relentless innovation that the company has embodied since 2004.

The Pittsburgh brewery will feature a smaller version of the custom made, state of the art, German-built brewhouse in Southern Tier’s flagship Lakewood location. This setup provides the ability to replicate the same high quality brews while cranking out new innovations specifically for Pittsburgh.

CEO John Coleman notes, “It’s an exciting time here at Southern Tier. With a long-standing connection between Pittsburgh and our brewery, we felt that this addition was natural. The number of visitors that our brewery receives from Western PA is astounding. We’ve always felt the love from PGH.  We’re thrilled to open doors and deepen roots in one of our favorite beer-loving cities.”

The decision to choose the North Shore location was based on a number of factors.  The neighborhood is rapidly turning into a major destination, with incredible sports, entertainment, and dining options.  The site also will feature a 10,000 sq. ft. outdoor beer garden, providing the perfect venue for game day.  The location is conveniently accessible by public transportation and foot traffic and has ample parking.

“The team at STBC is excited for the opportunity to be a part of the craft beer scene in Pittsburgh. We’ve been here since 2005 and it’s become our second biggest market, so it just seemed natural to take that next step of laying roots in the city of Pittsburgh.  There are a lot of great brewers doing justice to their craft and we look forward to furthering the local beer culture through collaboration and education.  It is very important to us that we understand, respect, and reinforce the craft beer community in Pittsburgh. We will truly be in good company,” said Southern Tier founder, Phin DeMink.

Kevin Sproule of Fuhrer Wholesale adds, “We are very excited to have Southern Tier Brewing make such a large commitment to the Pittsburgh area.  They are a great partner and are one of our largest and fastest growing Craft Breweries.”
