GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Founders announced today that it will release Sumatra Mountain Brown, an imperial brown ale made with Sumatra coffee, as the newest specialty offering in the 2016 lineup.

This bold imperial brown ale gets its body from a team of malts including Caramel malt for sweetness, flaked barley for dense foam, a bit of Chocolate malt for its deep color and Aromatic and Munich malts to add even more depth. German and Perle hops balance this malty sweetness by adding a touch of bitterness. The addition of rich Sumatra coffee takes this perfectly balanced brown ale to a decadent level.

Coming in at a substantial 9% ABV, Sumatra Mountain Brown will be available in 12oz 4-packs with a suggested retail price of $11.99.

“We love experimenting with different flavor profiles, coffee being one of our favorites,” said Co-founder and President Dave Engbers, “the strong malt foundation in Sumatra Mountain Brown carries the intense, roasted flavor of the Sumatra coffee with ease.”

Sumatra Mountain Brown joins a sterling cast of Founders’ iterations of coffee beers, including Breakfast Stout, Kentucky Breakfast Stout, Canadian Breakfast Stout and Frangelic Mountain Brown. It is the third release in Founders’ specialty lineup of 2016, accompanied by Imperial Stout, Curmudgeon Old Ale, reDANKulous and Breakfast Stout.

Sumatra Mountain Brown will be available in the taproom beginning on April 29 and across Founders’ remaining distribution footprint, which includes 37 states, beginning on May 2.
