Eisbock

All About Beer Magazine - Volume 30, Issue 1
March 1, 2009
Chad Wulff

93 Capital Eisphyre, Capital Brewery (WI). 10% ABV (11/06)

Lightly hazy burnished copper color. Extravagant aromas of caramelized butter sautéed bananas and apples, toasted nuts, delicate mint and nutmeg. A rich, thick entry leads to a dry-yet-fruity full body of Bananas Foster, chocolate-covered kumquats and spice. Finishes with a long chewy sweet malt and dried fruit fade with a brush of earthy hops to balance to sweetness.

88 Eisbock, Niagara Brewing Company (Canada). 8% ABV (11/06)

Deep copper color. Sour cream, caramelized nuts and spice aromas have a soapy edge. A frothy entry leads to an off-dry medium full body of caramelized, toasted, candied citrus and milk chocolate flavors. Finishes with a zest cocoa and citrusy, spicy hops fade.
