Belgian Style Strong Ale

All About Beer Magazine - Volume 32, Issue 2
May 1, 2011
- -

95 Ommegang Abbey Ale Dubbel, Brewery Ommegang (NY). 8.5% ABV (1/11)
Deep amber color with a soft manila blanket. Rich aromas of apricot and orange marmalades, acacia honey, coriander and spices with a supple, chewy fruity-yet-dry full body and a crisp, smooth citrus, wafer and peppery spice-laced finish. A delicious, vibrant food beer.

91 Three Philosophers Quadruple Ale, Brewery Ommegang (NY). 9.8% ABV (1/11)
Rich deep amber color with a fine manila mousse. Dense aromas of chocolate cherry nut fudge, treacle, honey pastry, apple liqueur and peppery spices with a satiny fine foamy fruity medium-full body and seamless, praline, wafer, juicy citrus and apple-accented finish. Impressive.
