More Taps Than Days In A Year

All About Beer Magazine - Volume 36, Issue 5
November 1, 2015 By Elizabeth Atkinson

With 378 permanent draft lines, North Carolina’s Raleigh Beer Garden is in the process of setting the Guinness World Record for largest number of draft beers on individual taps.

When he was working on his new bar, owner Niall Hanley wanted to focus on local beer, which in North Carolina is ever-expanding. As construction continued, Hanley kept adding more handles to his blueprints and one day asked Frank Bloom, director of marketing and events at Hibernian Co., what he thought the world record was for number of draft beers on individual taps. The answer, said Bloom, was 365, one for every day of the year. Hanley decided on breaking that record with “366, one for leap year.”

Raleigh Beer Garden currently has 144 taps for local and statewide beers, 222 for national and worldwide beers, and 378 handles in total. Hanley says the garden will keep adding more as space becomes available.
