Craic (“crack”): Fun, good times—often fueled by music and stout

Ceol (“ky-ul”): Music

Failte (“fall-cha”): Welcome

Glass: A half-pint of beer, the ordering of which is almost guaranteed to draw a man some strange looks.

Guinness Extra Cold: Guinness served through a special tap that chills it to between 1 and 3 degrees Celsius, i.e., really, really cold.

Lock-in: After legal drinking hours, when the doors are bolted, the curtains drawn and the craic continues for a few more hours.

Slainte (“slawn-cha”): Cheers

Traditional session: An Irish music jam, usually informal
